Rachael King is the author of two books for adults, The Sound of Butterflies andMagpie Hall, and one for children, Red Rocks. In 2008 Rachael held the Ursula Bethell Writer in Residence position at Canterbury University, and has been programme director of WORD Christchurch since 2013.
